Hello,

I'm thinking about getting new CPU in coming months. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm thinking about it. Here is my PC specs:

AMD Phenom X4 955 3.2 GHz
Corsair 2x4GB (8GB RAM)
MSI GeForce GTX760 2GB OC
OCZ Vertex 4 64GB and OCZ Vertex 4 128GB SSD
Corsair PSU TXV2 650W
Zalman CNPS10X Performa CPU cooler
AMD GIGABYTE 990X/SB950 SAM3+ATX/GA-990XA-UD3 motherboard

So, now my questions:

1. Is it worth to get new CPU? I'm a gamer, but I don't need superior performance and I NEVER play games on max settings (usually I lower shadows, AA, V-sync off and resolution).
2. Does my motherboard support any of the newer AMD CPU's such as AMD Phenom II X6 1090T or AMD FX-8350 X8?
3. Does my CPU cooler is enough to keep any of those new CPU's cool (I'm not planning to do OC)?

I doubt you need a BIOS update, but there is an easy way to determine that. When the PC boots up, the BIOS version should be displayed somewhere on the screen. Probably at the bottom. The initial release version should be "F1" and that covers all current socket AM3+ CPUs AMD has released so far.

There is a version "F2" that can be downloaded, but it is only a RAID update. So if your hard drive are configured in a RAID setup, then perhaps it is worth looking into. Most people do not have a RAID setup, and I am pretty sure most of those people do not even know what RAID is.

How do I find what BIOS version I have? I've checked in BIOS but there is nothing. Also, motherboard loading screen tells nothing about version too.

EDIT: I've checked in System information and it says "F3". So, as I understand the Phenom II X6 series (my motherboard page says since F2) does not require me to update the BIOS, while the newer FX series requires the BIOS update to newer version, right? I'm not very good at hardware so I want to know am I thinking correct.

since your not planning to occ and want it to keep cool the fx 6300 would be a better choice due to the temp being 95w

check revision on motherboard if you dont see it in the bios

revision can be found button left of the board before the words designed in Taipei

you will need bios version f13

once you find your revision pick it at the top of page choose driver type bios

Ok guys, thanks for answers. So, I've updated my BIOS with no problems. And ordered a new CPU - FX 8350. You havn't mentioned anything about PSU. Is it mean it's ok? Or should I consider something better? As I said, I'm not planning to do CPU OC. As far as I know, FX can take 220w on full load.
