Hello guys,

So I own a Dell Inspiron 580's, a slimline build PC. It has been running almost perfectly for 3 years now. Recently a problem that started arising was no matter how many (even 30-40) times I pressed the CD Drive Open button it didn't open. So I used a pin to open it through that manual eject hole they give you. I did it a few times. After that it started opening in 1 click itself. But now the problem is that it doesn't read my discs, and I can't even hear the disc spinning.

I guess it's mostly just the drive getting loose or something but I thought I might just consult you guys. And if it is loose, what's the solution?

Sounds like its time to replace the drive. You can pick one up on about any computer supply web site for around 20 bucks, and they are very easy to install. Just open up the case, unplug it, take out the screw, and slide it out. For the new one, do the same thing in reverse.

CD drives wear out. It sounds like you need to replace it. Check with Dell to see if they have a unit to fit. You can do the replacement very easy. Here is a link to the service manual (ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/...). Here is a sample of what you may need (http://www.discountelectronics.com/product?gclid=CN_L7f...).

Why spend 29 bucks on a refurb, when a brand new LG, Liteon, Samsung, or Asus all cost less than 20 bucks ? Sounds like a total waste of money to me.

Agree was offered as an example since it looks like a full height drive any should fit.
