Is it to late to upgrade a AM3 cpu?

I'm wanting to upgrade my old Athlon IIx2 250. But I'm finding it hard to find anything good. Any suggestions?

If your motherboard supports it a phenom II x4 or x6 will be much better than what you have and they don't cost a whole lot usually.

Yes, my motherboard is a GA-MA785GMT-UD2H. So it supports the phenom II x4s and x6s. The problem is finding any for sale.

edit: Well, I am actually finding used ones on amazon and new ones for double the price they were selling for ....

There are tons of them for sale on ebay and Amazon both used and new, other than that I wouldn't know where to find them for sale from a retailer.

All i can find on amazon or newegg are phenoms ii x4 for about 150 bucks and a single x6 to over 200... really, you shouldnt look at that. Maybe a worthly upgrade will be an FX 6300, it should be support by your mobo, check any bios update and read if it supported, then buy the new processor !

Have u searched for the phenom X2 560B.E. it would be nice and u can unlock it's extra two cores which is a bang for the buck.

This one is a good upgrade from what you have, it says slightly used and it's selling for less than it's original retail price. People always up the price when it's not sold retail anymore and they know some people need them.

Actually i have the same problem here, i was alos stuck with my x2 245 but now i'm using by brother's x4 810. x4's and x6's are also not available here.

Yep that's what I'm finding everywhere I look, either discontinued or out of stock or about double the price they were selling for. And the ones that do seem to be priced right are used and without the cooling fans, which I haven't checked the prices on yet .... I may be better off just replacing the motherboard also, still looking though.

I buy used processors a lot and have never had problems and for $20 to $25 you can get a pretty good after market cooler.

Actualy you have one other option, get a good am3+ motherboard for like 60 $ ,or even less.. then use your x2 for just a bit longer till you get the money for FX x6 or even x8 . Yup that would be best, get a cheap and good am3+ mobo like the asus M5A78M-LX V2 and get a decent processor like the fx4300/6300. Get the one that fits ur budget.

You can buy an Anthlon II x3 for $80 new which is 35% faster on tigerdirect, other than that you will probably have to buy something used or buy a new motherboard and CPU.
