A few years ago i build what was supposed to be a cheap htpc but i got slightly carried away and built a budget gaming rig.
-AMD A8 3870K
-Gigabyte A75-D3H
-8gb 1600MHz Ram
-Radeon HD 6670
-600W OCZ ModXStream Pro Modular Power Supply

Now i have some money and i my question is should i upgrade to;
-Asus SABERTOOTH 990FX
-AMD FX-8350
-XFX Double Dissipation Edition Radeon HD 7970

or just get a £500 graphics card

This is all for gaming btw
Thanks

you need a cpu upgrade if you want a better graphics card. that apu will be bottlenecked by a 200+ usd card.

Upgrade! What PSU do you have since you may need one and you could save on the motherboard and get cheaper 990FX board.

The Sabertooth is a great board, but likely more expensive than you need unless you intend to go for a high overclock (in which case you'll also need a cooler). An Asus 970 board would likely be sufficient, especially if you'll only run a single graphics card.
Similarly, unless you are really going for high overclocks and might need the better binning, a FX-8320 might be a more cost-effective choice.
As to the graphics card, I'd had good results from XFX, so I bought their DD Edition HD7970. It was hot, loud, and their tech support was unresponsive, so I RMA'd it and bought a Gigabyte WF3 version. That card has run much more quietly, and stays cool. That's the version I'd choose.

You do have to get rid of that processor as it will definitely bottleneck a 500 pound card and will be a waste of money. You could save money and get a cheaper board and hence get a better gpu, although the 7970 is still a good card. Have a look at these, both are great boards
