Intel i7 4770k vs AMD fx8150

I am building a new pc..
What would you guys recommend?

Either the I7 4770k
Or
The AMD fx8150

Which one is more powerful?

Don't get the FX 8150, as it is a horrible CPU. FX 8320 is a fine chip, though. i7 is more powerful but like twice the price.

i7-4770k by a long shot.

From what I've heard the Bulldozer line of CPUs from AMD are complete crap.

And even if you're comparing the i7-4770k with the 8350, still the i7 wins

I7 4770k for sure, FX 8150 is from bulldozer architecture which is not altogether powerful. if you don't want to spend less, and grab a better gpu, you can go with fx 8320, if it is the CPU alone story and you have the budget i7-4770k

The 4770k is the best quad core on the market and the best gaming cpu. The FX 8150 has 8 VERY weak cores and would not be good for gaming at all. The 4770k is about 10x better than the 8150.

fx 8150 is an older "buldozer" and those processors had rather bad performance in games ...
new "vishera" processors are much better for gaming:
fx 8320 is probably the best value for money from their current offering...

but the best gaming processor is i5 4670K offering performance of i7 for lower price...

Of course the 4770k is more powerful. That's like the most powerful CPU you can get right now, aside from the X series of Intel. But yea, that costs ALMOST twice as much as the AMD 8350. If you have a big budget and you need that much power, then go for the 4770k. If only for gaming, stick with the i5 4670k.

i5 4670k is a mistake, so don't buy it, it is already on the way out, first of all Ubisoft's new engine which is heavily threaded http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=4546&game=Watch%20Dogs, ubisoft has confirmed that i5 owners won't be able to max the game, due to CPU bottleneck, also Capcom has confirmed it's new engine is heavily threaded and takes full advantage of i7 CPUs, which is indeed good news for fx owners http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/132533/sponsored_feature_resident_evil_5_.php?print=1 this engine is going to be used in resident evil 5 for the first time, and finally it is the new Unreal Engine which exactly specifies the more cores, the better http://www.shacknews.com/article/70348/epic-talks-unreal-engine-4

If you want to go with AMD, get a FX 8320 or 8350. They are great values, and are way way better than the crap that is the 8150.

for rendering: i7>fx8320/8350>i5>fx6300>i3
if budget isnt a concern -> clearly the i7
as soon as you cant afford the i7, piledriver generation (fx x3xx) are the better choice

I do not. I'm a big fan of the FX 6300, 8320, and 8350. I have hands on experience with the bulldozers and trust me when I say they are crap.

The FX 8150 is basically a ~2.2ghz x8 processor that consumes mass amounts of power. You can overclock it like 30% and gain less than 10% of actual performance while also double the already high power consumption.
