I have a really peculiar problem my windows 8.1 pro machine boots every morning at 8:30 and i can't find why.
My Build
Asus Rampage Gene IV
I7 3930K (OC 4.2 Ghz )
32 GB Geil Memory
500 GB SSD Crucial
EVGA 680 GTX 4GB
Silverstone case SG10
Corsair AX 860 PSU
Corsair H80 cooler

Is there any way to quickly find that in the task scheduler?

The windows task scheduler can be found at
Control panel -> Administrative tools -> Task Scheduler
Manual search, not quick. And I that doubt what is causing it would be so kind as to add an entry to the scheduler for you to find.

Ensure you have an up to date anti-virus program.

Look through the event viewer (Start - Control panel - administrative tools - event viewer) (windows logs - application) to see if the program that asked for the shutdown logged a message. search for entries right before 8:30.

Check all of your programs to see how their self updates are configured. One of them might have "and do a reboot" indicated.

If you try the above and they aren't the solution, how tech savvy are your kids (assuming you have kids)? =P

It could be a setting in your BIOS/UEFI to turn on the device at a specified time. (ASRock supports a dehumidier function, ASUS may too now).

It could also be set up for Wake-On-Lan/ Magic Packet. Some routers support automatically sending Magic Packets at certain times. I believe this function can also be turned off in the BIOS/UEFI.

I have 10 month old son! He needs a bit of training before he might be of help. I have checked all relative entries in the bios. I will have another look just in case i missed the wake up on Lan.

Lol I actually meant that as in he might be pranking you/mom (I did when I was a kid). If he's only 10 months, probably not... =P Congratulations btw.

I didn't find anything at the rampage gene IV Bios version 4601
I don't even think that it has an alarm setting and the wake up on PCI is deactivated (the wake up on lan is passing through the pcie controller in ROG mobos)
This is really strange ...

It's a little bit of a stretch, but do you have any other devices that turn on at that time? Alarm Clock? Automatic Coffee Pot? DVR? Roomba? Thermostat?

Long shot but.. Could power be restored to the system at that time (either a timer turns it on, or a regular interruption at that time) and the BIOS is set to turn on the system after a power interruption?

You know that might make sense. I have to check it this weekend. It will be fun, I will watch my computer box waiting to start ... by itself ! I have a boiler that is on timer and it turns on at regular intervals. I can't remember what was my setting for loss of power.
