I am running a GTX550ti and I have a dual boot setup, both OS are windows 7. when on one OS the card runs at around 38c idle 65 to 73c under load, that seems about normal. When I boot into the other OS the gpu shoots up to about 72c at idle. I have updated the driver and I keep my rig pretty clean, wire management is not the problem. I have 6 fans running so airflow is good. I did blow out the card with air just to be sure it's clean. How can it be hot on one OS but not the other? TIA

Check your OC settings on the OS that it's running hot. You may have it locked to run at full at all times.

Thank's for the reply, I don't have the gpu or cpu overclocked at stock speeds, could you be more specific what "OC settings on the OS" is?

Uninstall any third party O.C software or the O.C ing software that came from ur gpu's vendor's C.D. Then uninstall your gpu drivers and do a fresh latest driver installation. If this does not solve the problem, try doing a fresh installation of windows.

I don't have O.C. software installed, I have never O.C. the card. As a last resort I am going to re install windows, I want to know what is causing this more than just a fix. I am sure it's a software problem since I tried a different card and it over heats that one to. Thank's for your suggestions.

Check the GPU use-GPUZ is a nice little freebie monitoring app-if you're seeing high use at idle in one OS and not the other, check for virus/malware infections.

Thank's for the help everyone, very appreciated. I was hoping to find out why this was happening but I guess at this point I will just have to move on. I re installed windows and that fixed the problem.
