So I just tried to build my own pc for the first time. I've been researching everything about building for a while now and I think I did a not to bad job. Everything seems like its placed in the right spot. So heres the problem. I go to turn the thing on and everything starts up, the fans go on, the lights come on, but it doesn't post. It just makes a really worrying high pitched screeching sound. The screeching sound isnt really loud, its soft enough to be able to drown it out with a little light music. It sounds like its coming from the processor and I really hope my processor isnt fucked. I appreciate all help, thank you.

Solution
The general rules for choosing the AMD MB on the high TDP (~125W) processor; look for a minimum quality 4+1 phase on the board for use with high TDP processor. Higher is better though, and the larger board size (mATX boards are typically fitted with inferior VRM designs due to limited space), but it becomes tricky from case to case. If they work out fine then it is OK, if no then you have to guess the problem.

In your case, because the weakest part in your PC is the MB, because the PSU is good, which is much better the one in the youtube you link. Actually like your situation, maybe MB, or CPU too, but the fx8320 is new, so I assume the problem is from MB.

Hi there, I'd like to understand a bit more. So basically, there isn't enough power delivered to CPU through the the 4 pin??

Mmh, I'm lost lol. I think the link you gave explains that microATX have 3+1 VRM beside M5A78L-M/USB3 that have 4+1 but can't handle 125 W CPUs such as FX-8xxx.

Thanks for the answer! So you think its the mb? I only picked this mb and processor because in this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tN6CSReC70E) they say its compatible and it even posted. Do you think its because my power supply is different from theirs?

Oh alright thank you so much! Is there anything I can do about this or do I have to change out the MB entirely? Also what exactly is a 4+1 phase and what kind of mother board would you recommend changing it out with? Do I have to look out for something specific or is a name brand, ATX (over the mini-ATX) AMD MB with a 760g chip set fine? I'm assuming most current MB would have these similar specs. I appreciate all of the help. :)

Here is the info for the power phase (VRMs). http://www.overclock.net/t/943109/about-vrms-mosfets-motherboard-safety-with-125w-tdp-processors

And for the FX8320, you should get the 970 chipset MB at least, like the ASUS M5A97 R2.0, which is most popular and high quality MB. But don't get the MSI brand for the AMD system, IMPO.

But before you change the MB, make sure the problem you had that was from MB or cpu first. Like test the CPU in other PC if you can. Or contact the store/seller to see what they said.

Thank you so much for the help. This is my very 1st build and I was really nervous. Unfortunately I don't have anything other to test the parts on so I really just have to try to get a new MB and hope for the best. Hopefully that will solve everything. I will update and say if it posts or not. Thanks so much again! I really appreciate it! :D
