Overclocking a 4770k for the first time problems

Okay so I have a 4770k paired up with an MSI G45 Gaming mobo, 8 gigs of ram, a GTX 780. The CPU is water cooled by a Corsair H50M quiet edition, and it's all in a Thermal Take Chaser series case. Basically I OCd it to 4.3 GHz and left all other settings on auto; it ran prime95 fine for 12 hours and max temps were around 65*. With the voltage settings on auto, it set it around 1.27.

The other day I saw a LinusTechTips video on OCing a 4770k, and he recommended starting off with a multiplier at 46, and the voltage set to 1.2; the computer wouldn't even POST. I began increasing the voltage, and after blue screening multiple times it finally booted into the OS with the voltage set at almost 1.4. Once I started prime95 it instantly blue screened. The voltage was set on override and not adaptive. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Unfortunately, not every processor overclocks the same. Your processor just may not run at those settings without a lot of voltage, which is going to lower the lifespan of your processor. I'd go back to the previous settings you had, and try again a bit at a time.

Thanks. I put it back to the old settings and it's been running fine again. I'll try to see if I can get it to 4.4 or 4.5.

So basically if I can't get it to work at 4.5 I have a really sucky one?

Well at 4.5 and 1.35 it crashed, so I tried putting it in adaptive and it's ben running stable so far. The only problem is that with adaptive it cranks the volts up to 1.4 and the temps are reaching 70*. I'm going to try lowering the volts tomorrow and seeing if leaving it in adaptive will keep it stable. I knew I should have gone with Ivy Bridge-E.

Okay so I decided to leave it at 4.5 and bump the volts down to 1.28 while leaving it on adaptive. It was drawing 1.33 when the torture test was running, and it blue screened after about 10 mins. I bumped it down to 4.4 and left the voltage the same and it seems to be stable so far. If it remains stable should I leave it there, lower the voltage more and see if it remains stable, or increase the voltage slightly and try to get 4.5 out of it? What is the max voltage I should be running so it doesn't destroy the CPU?

Well it restarted at the previous settings, and now it's been running fine at 1.3 V. At full load it increases to 1.34V. Is it safe to run it here or should I just back down to 4.3 on auto voltage and call it a day. I clearly got screwed with a bad over clocker.
