Will using a switch slow you down?

Let's say I have 4 gigabit PCs, will it be faster if I plug them directly to 4 gigabit ports on the gigabit router?

What if I connect 4 gigabit PCs to a gigabit switch, then connect the switch to router instead?

Will it slow down the internet connect or the file transfer speed between PCs?

Solution
It won't slow it down by anything noticeable. In order to slow it down you would have to saturate the 1Gb uplink between the router and the switch. Switches are smart so they can govern the traffic between PC's connected to them without the need to go to the router.

So in order to slow the network down you would need to saturate the 1Gb uplink between the router and the switch. You could only do that by having multiple PC's w/ fast SSD's on the switch transfer files from SSD equipped PC's connected to the router. Needless to say that prolly won't happen too often.
