I have a dell Optiplex 745 desktop that I am using for a gaming computer, (Pathetic, I know,) and I wanted to know if I could get this upgrade. My specs are:
-4gb DDr2 ram
-750gb 7200 rpm SATA HDD
-Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz (I currently have a Pentium D 945 3.4Ghz but I am upgrading to what is to the left)
-Current GPU is AMD Sapphire Radeon HD 6450 1gb ddr3
-280 Watt Proprietary PSU (Cannot be replaced with something better)

So there you have it, those are my specs. If another thing is needed, I will add it. Also, please tell me if it is worth it, or should I just stick to what I have.

I think you will be fine with an hd7750. It's max tdp is like 56w.

Your pc won't be able to be upgraded any further at this point, not with any logical upgrades I think.

Try checking newegg or amazon to see if they have a psu like that. If not, then I think you will be fine with an HD7750, or HD6570 if your budget is lower. I'm a little hesitant to recommend the HD6670 as it actually requires more power than the HD7750.

How many amps does your PSU have on the +12v rail(s)? If it has a total of at least 16A, you should be fine to get the HD7750. If it's lower at like 14A, get the HD6570.

To make it a worthwhile upgrade, I think it's better if you were able to get the HD7750, the HD6570 will be better, but not that much better.

So I should also look at the 7750? Hmm. I will decide whether or not that would be a good price. Also, please remember that I don't have much room to play around with. I am not totally concerned about power, it is space. I can only do low profile cards. Keep that in mind.

Also, from my user experience, I have decided that Sapphire is a good, solid, reliable brand. I have had this card since I think mid July without a single problem. How about visiontek?

I just looked for myself, and it looks like the heatsink/fan thing doesn't come back any farther than the heatsink on my current card, so that should work, and it looks like it is not too long. Will this work with the bios and stuff like that?

You won't be able to get an upgrade for only $50. The HD7750 will be anywhere from $70 after rebates to $100 full price. I prefer sapphire, but if you can get a great price on a vistiontek (I have seen them as low as $65 after rebates). Make sure you measure the x,y,z dimensions carefully, each card is going to have different configurations.

4GB ram is fine.

Also, please check your PSU and see how many Amps it has on the +12v rail(s) before making any purchases.

It seems that I can get the Radeon HD 7750 because it has a small power footprint of 50 watts and my PSU can do that. In that case, I can get it. I may be able to get it for 100 dollars. If it proves way better than my current card, it will have been worth it, and my computer would be basically maxed out in capabilities.
