When did I ever say that because the power connectors are the same it means that they use the same amount of power? How is the
Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition's requirement of
two 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connectors the same as the
Radeon HD 7850's requirement of
one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector?
What you fail to realize is that the TechPowerUp power consumption charts, that you've linked to, shows the power consumption for the Radeon HD 7870, which AMD refers to as the Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition.
There is also the AMD Radeon HD 7870 Boost Edition that uses a different GPU (i.e. Tahiti LE) that can draw up to 60 Watts more than the AMD Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition (i.e. Pitcairn GPU) at maximum power.
