I'm having lots of BSOD whenever I play games (Borderlands 2 and Assassin's Creed 4). The only thing I have discovered is that my motherboard only has a PCIe 2.0 slot whereas my GPU requires 3.0. I read another topic that says it is backwards compatible, but I think they meant that a 2.0 GPU will work with a 3.0 slot, which was not what the TC was asking.

More about : pcie x16 gpu work pcie mobo

Just out of curiosity, what was the specific BSOD code you were getting? Should be an 8-character code, may have "0x" in front of it.

Might be an issue with powersupply

I doubt it's the power supply, it's a BFG with a lifetime warranty. I think the issue sounds like the card is generating more data than the interface can handle. A PCIe 3.0 slot is backwards compatible with a 2.0 GPU, but I don't think the other way around works.

+1 to that.

Not really.
People have successfully benchmarked cards like the 680 on 1.1 x16 slots.
If the interface cannot handle, then the fps will drop, simple as that.
Power supply seems more appropriate.
What are the ratings of your PSU?
Wattage? Amperage on the 5 rails? What does the sticker say?

anyways back to the ops question. yes its backwards compatible and bfg arent known for making powersupplies heck i think they went out of business.

In August 2010, BFG began the process of liquidation, initially only for the GPU business but eventually expanding to include the entire company. As a result of this, BFG ceased to honor RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) requests for warranty service, repair, or replacement, instead returning the product to the customer with a short letter explaining the situation.[2]

ya ur warranty is useless sorry bro.

and its possible its ur powersupply i havent seen a positive review for one bfg powersupply. there graphic cards where ok but powersupplies= scrap

Maybe it's an old PSU?
Warranty may be lifetime, but PSU's simply don't last for 100 years.
When PSU's get old, they start to deliver less power than they're rated for(given it's branded; unbranded ones give much less anyway).

you are right over time powersupplys lose wattage and efficiency.
