Hey there, so slight issue.

I recently bought a new laptop.

The Toshiba Satellite L55Dt-A5253NR

I run wireless with ATT at home. I have a desktop plugged in with ethernet, another laptop and my wife's laptop (we also have two phones and a tablet that use the wifi sometimes)

The issue is that the new computer gets speeds of 0.49 mbps (speedtest.net) while the others (wireless or not) get a consistent 4-6 mbps. I have no idea why this one computer is so slow on the network.

Does anyone have ideas of how to catch it up to the speed of the others. I've already tried changing between wireless channel 6 and 11 as well as checking if the laptop's wireless can be updated. Seeing as this computer is brand new, this is extremely irritating. I can't do much on it.

Solution
A strong signal does not necessarily mean that it's a good quality signal. Many things can reduce the signal quality (and therefore speed). Those things include cordless phones, microwave ovens, other access points on the same or overlapping channels, and what obstructions are between you and the access point.

Update: In my room on that new laptop. Slow Speeds. 2 doors down (small apartment) in my office where the router is I"m getting 4 and 5 mbps. Not understanding why the heck I have to be so close to it for this to occur. I have full 6 bars in either location. Any ideas?
