Long time lurker, first time postIng. This community is awesome and has greatly helped me in the past. So thanks guys!

Anyways, here's my situation. I'm looking to do a few upgrades for rig. Before we get started, here is my specs:

CPU: Phenom II x4 965 BE Liquid cooled
Mobo: Gigabyte 990x-ud3
Ram: G.skill ddr3 (4x) 2gb 1333
GPU: MSI TF II 6950
PSU: Tagan ITZ 700w (came with my old coolermaster case. Never heard of tagan?)
HD: Samsung 120gb SSD (and a couple random size HDs)
Case: Antec 900

Nothing is OC'd. All stock in BIOS. So here's my dilemma. I want my computer to run Battlefield 4 at ultra settings with at least 60 fps. Do I pick up a 280x or GTX 760? Will my PSU be enough for either? Should I keep the 6950 and buy a FX CPU or a i5-3770k and mobo? Do I buy a 660 ti and more RAM? I don't need the top of the line GPU/CPU etc, just want to be competitive on pub BF4.

Any and all help will be appreciated, and of course I will select best answer :-)

I'd upgrade to: 8GB RAM, FX 8320 (~$130) or i5 (if you have the $$) and a 660 Ti would do you just fine.

Ah, misunderstood your specs. Should be good there, 1333 is fine, higher RAM speeds yield very marginal gains in gaming. What's your budget for upgrades?

For gaming a 280x over a 760 or an upgraded cpu will yield better results. Your psu is enough, but is probably low quality. You got liquid cooling on your cpu do you can OC it to gain extra performance there without much risk.

I'm running BF4 at 1920x1080 on a Sapphire Dual-x 280x stock speeds without a problem on ultra. You can get the VaporX or Toxic version of the 280x which will perform better and have better cooling.

yea, that's not even 80+ efficiency, so it's not great but good enough. 280x ranges from 300-400, depending on the manufacturer. Sapphire is the largest, I got their dualx, which is the lowest, vaporx is the next step up then toxic.

I found a unopened 8320 be on craigslist locally for $100. Gonna pick that up for sure. Visiontek 280x is what i've been looking at but its sold out everywhere so I might have to wait until tax return to pick up that guy. Unless of course one of you know where I can find one from a reputable online dealer...

Heard good things. I've been an MSI fanboy for awhile and was considering the MSI 280x as well.

MSI, Sapphire and ASUS are good AMD cards. Sapphire makes the best performing 280x's right now

I ended up getting an EVGA 670 for a smokin deal. That leaves me with almost enough to buy my buddies i5-3570k and Sabertooth z77 for $250.
