Will mirroring an SSD to a conventional drive slow down the SSD?

I can't seem to find a straightforward answer to this question anywhere online. I want to use an SSD as my boot drive, but i would like to keep a mirror of it in case it suddenly and unexpectedly fails with no SMART warning, as they tend to do. If i have it mirrored to another drive, will it slow down the SSD? If so, what is another viable option for keeping a mirror image of this drive, rather than a conventional backup?

if by mirroring you mean something like RAID1, then yes, it will reduce the SSD to run at the same speed of the HDD

what you might want is to use some backup software to automatically write the data on the SSD to the HDD
