Im planning of replacing my videocard
before anything else here's the specs of my cpu

processor: athlon II X4
board: gigabyte ma785GM-US2H
VC: Sapphire Radeon HD 5870
PSU: corsair HX620w
RAM: 2x2 Gb

Here are my questions:
1. I want to replace my VC to GTX 480 or 670
can either of the 2 handle my other parts?
as I've checked through google it says both uses DDR5. Do I need to replace also my board? (if so, I might end up upgrading my whole cpu)
but I saw someone with his video on youtube that uses GTX 480 same with the board that I have

2. I also wanted to replace my processor into phenom II X4 (later on) can I still use my old board and GTX 480?

Im not into upgrading my whole cpu into a new one. Im into tight budget right now :D

Thanks in advance

the motherboard.......... tired old POS. had one. time for you to move on. they weren't that great and they sucked with any processor that had a ddr3 memory controller on it.

what cpu do you have now and what cpu did you want to put on that board?.......... be specific.

you can put a titan on that board........... doesn't matter.

what is your monitor res?

really.............. drop the board and get a newer cpu/mobo combo with 2x4gig of DDR3 1333.

@morgan
Thanks for the quick response. Sorry Im not into PC specs. I just upgrade my parts needed for more than 4 years now. I dont have any idea with the new specs now. The titan thing :D

If I replace my motherboard can I still use my processor, my RAM, and the new GTX480 or 670 if ever?
If yes, what kind of motherboard?

the cpu specs that I posted above is the one Im using now
I want my cpu now to replaced just the videocard to GTX 480 or 670 for now
The phenom II thing would be a later plan (if necessary to my other parts, maybe a month or two from now after I have my new funds for it. For now I dont want to expend more.

my monitor resolution is 1280 x 720 cause they say its the best resolution for 3D gaming. Im using a 42" 3D led TV.

drop the board and get a newer cpu/mobo combo with 2x4gig of DDR3 1333 - what suggestion do you have in mind? like brand and model of the parts

Thanks

you have a low res and don't need a large card. what you have should be plenty and really don't need an upgrade.

as far as the processor swap................... if you don't get an 8320 or 8350 you won't be making an upgrade but will be going sideways.

if you swap for an 8series amd processor you'll need a new board to support it and new memory because what you have won't be swappable.

if at some time in the future you decide to go for a bigger monitor, you will need a bigger card. 1080p with current hardware won't matter much. a 2gig 7850 on up would work well. a 3gig 7950 would be a sweet spot price/performance right now. your system can't utilize all of it but for a carry-over card............. just my thoughts.

since you're on a tight budget you need to explain why you think you need a new card. doesn't make sense from my standpoint.
