You do relize that you would only need one of these cards to run 3 monitors(depending on the inputs of the monitors. IE: They will have to have both HDMI and DVI inputs or dvi and display port) So you would have to run 2 monitors DVI, then for the third monitor it would have to be HDMI or Display port. But yeah the r9 290 is more than capable of supporting 3 monitors at 4GB 512-bit.

Still with one of those cards you should be able to play everything on ultra. BUT i guess for future proof ultra may require 2 of these. Up to you! Would be a beast setup with 2 of these!

You sure about that ? Because I've never saw a triple monitor setup running on ultra with only one video card ? :$

And I talk about the r9 290 and not the r9 290x...

I guess im not 100% sure about 1 card doing 3 monitors on ultra. I guess maybe someone else should chime in who uses a triple monitor setup.

Unless the game is a couple years old, you will not be able to pull off triple monitor at Ultra settings. At the minimum you would probably need either an R9 290X/780 Ti or Crossfire R9 290/ SLI 780/770.

What do you mean by at the minimum ?
You think I will not run the latest games at ultra with 2x r9 290 in crossfire?

I don't think you understand how intensive multimonitor is. A 7970 could barely pass 30 fps on Battlefield 3 on Ultra, and a Gtx 680 also barely passed 30. A 770 runs around, as far as I've seen, a 680, but with slightly better performance. A 7970 performs worse than an R9 290 but a noticeable margin, but on multimonitor it would fall apart on Ultra settings. If you're running single monitor, the 290 could pull off Ultra settings with ease. You NEED SLI 770 or Crossfire 290 to make the game playable. Or, another option would be 780 Ti or R9 290X alone. I've never seen either benchmarked in multimonitor, but I think they should be able to pull through.
