Hi guys, am having a zotac gtx 295 and everything was working fine until about a week ago that i upgraded my os from windows 8 to windows 8.1. then the problem began. After my computer has been on for some time the screen freezes but everything else still keeps running for example the music that will be playing will still continue to play. the only option for me is hard reset the pc. I went back to my previous os and still the problem persists. One thing that i have notice is that the system freezes quickly when i connect my dvi connector to the one nearer the motherboard than the one far from the motherboard. I have now tried disabling sli and the system and have been on for almost an hour now. I really need a help on this please.

Changing back to Win7x64 would be a good idea... IMO. I tried Win8 twice; once on a PC and once on a Surface Pro. I hated it. I hope they never quit supporting Win7 ;-)

I've never kept a gfx card long enough to have it die from use, so I can't help you there. I would guess that artifacts would start showing up as one of the indicators of a dying card. The gfx processor would probably be the last item to go. Things like capacitors and other discrete components would fail first I would think.

If you go back to Win7 and the problem still persists, I would think it to be the card or the MB. If you have access to another card to use, you can kinda tell then if it is the card or the MB.

Do you have the correct driver for Win8.1? It requires a new driver from the one for Win8.
You could try a driver uninstall/reinstall. Uninstall the Nvidia pkg in Control Panel/Programs. Then download/install Driver Sweeper, this version: http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4266-driver-sweeper.html
After uninstalling the gfx driver, boot to safe mode and run DS. Have it remove any remnants of Nvidia, AMD, and ATI graphic drivers it finds. Reboot and install the correct driver for your card and OS.

i have now uninstalled the nvidia drivers from the system and it seems the system has been responding for about two hours now. am now yet to installed the latest beta version form nvidia as the the previous driver did not help. one question that i have is that is my gtx 295 on its way out. What are some of tyhe signs of a dying vga. I also planned to change the os to windows 7 and give it a try.
