Hi and Good Morning,

I am just wondering if anyone knows any good alternatives to the ASRock's Z87 Extreme4 ?

Okay so if you where to choose below this 3 Mobo's what would you choose? (I am using an i5-4670k cpu) So Quality wise and some light OC which Mobo would be a good choice? (Loving the Red/Black on the MSI though) but then ASRock has an award from TH!.

Mobo choice #1

Mobo choice #2

Mobo choice #3

Any info is appreciated thanks!

GIGABYTE GA-Z87-HD3 114$

MSI Z87-G43 119$

Just a bit sceptical with the ASRock quality :(
At the same time maybe just cutting out a bit on the spending to squeeze in a cheap after market cpu cooler :) .

ASRock is a top 3 mobo brand nowadays, along with Asus and Gigabyte. The Extreme4 is an extremely popular model for cheap overclocking.

Ye I plan on OCing the CPU. Though still looking if there are other boards that are as good but at a lower price.

hmm What would you choose on the 3 Motherboards that I have linked? I am buying the parts in the span of next week and assemble on the holidays, but again I just really can't choose what Mobo to get at all...

the ASRock's Z87 Extreme 4 I could get for £110 whilst the MSI's Z87-G45 Gaming for £109.04

They where £2-3 lower last week but it seems like prices are going up this christmas >_<

Ah, I put the wrong link on the ASRock now it has the correct link with TH's award. But ye I kind of Like the Ex4 but then that MSI aesthetics just hits the right spot specially when adding a Ram sticks with red heatsinks....

Yea, both mobo's are fine. I like the ASRock more because I know it overclocks so well, but the msi will work just fine as well. If aesthetics are important enough to you (and you will be able to see inside your case), then go for the one that looks better. You won't really be losing out on anything.

I personally had(have, waiting to send back) a MSI G45 Gaming that came half dead. The Killer nic drivers are also garbage and filled with bloatware. Honestly wasn't impressed with the first MSI board i'd bought as my last 3 had been Asrock, but none of the Asrock boards I wanted were on Amazon at the time so I went with MSI... and paid the price.

I'd definitely recommend Asrock, and since my experience with MSI was terrible, I would not recommend that.

Thanks guys, I went for the ASRock and so far its working pretty nicely hopefully no hiccups :)  And yes overclocking using the turbo tech (automatic when enabled in ASRock's simple UEFI) is really really easy to do and then you can overclock 3.8 and over easily through choices in the UEFI bios (4.2/4.4/"4.6 on red"). Although I had problems with ASRock Extreme 4 UEFI bios freezing and hanging at first boot everytime, I luckily found a fix by updating it :) . !

Glad its working well!

Hey, here's a guide that will really help with overclocking safely and effectively: http://www.overclock.net/t/1198504/complete-overclockin...

I've found that the built-in overclocking tool doesn't work that well past 3.8 or 4.0ghz. This guide will help you with all the settings you need to get a higher, but stable/safe overclock than 3.8ghz.

Hi, Thanks for sharing, and yes it indeed was a bit unstable at 4.2 when I tested it. The same way when I OC'd my GPU at game start game just shut down at first few minutes on gameplay. Gonna try out the guide thanks !
