Hello all,

I recently bought a decent gaming computer pre-owned. Everything was fine in it, but the AMD CPU overheated quite a bit so I decided to get a CPU cooler and went for the Corsair H100 closed-loop system. The PSU that came with it was also very badly rated on the internet with many known problems so I also bought a 650W Corsair PSU.

This was my first time fully unplugging everything in a computer and in general opening the case at all (save for ram upgrades).

I started with the PSU because I wanted a more reliable power source installed before I put in the water cooler.

After forgetting to hook up the HDD, I got it fully functional with the PSU.

On to the problem:

I disconnected the CPU fan and heatsink and connected the cooler per instructions.

Everything powers fine, but after bootup the PC shuts down, seemingly to a heating issue. The longer I leave the computer off, the longer it tends to last before shutting down. I can't get to desktop fast enough to run speedfan and I have no other ways of sensing heat.

It should be noted that the first time I started it I forgot to connect the cooler to the CPU FAN 3-pin connector on the mobo the first time, but connected it after.

CPU isn't fried, it still calculates enough to get me to the start screen on Win8.

GPU isn't fried because I can see just fine.

Mobo can't be fried, it's running everything to get me to desktop.

What did I do?

The block is designed to come with an adequate amount of thermal material already on the block, as described in the following link:

http://www.corsair.com/blog/installing-the-hydro-series-h100-extreme-performance-cpu-cooler-in-the-obsidian-800d/

I've tightened it down extensively but I will dig around in there to make sure it has full contact.

Update: Removed CPU block, paste had made good contact with the CPU. I put the CPU block back on the CPU and rebooted. The computer lasted a little over 2 minutes by doing nothing but booting.
