3 pin zalman sink, is it OK plug into fan controller to manually control speed? Ignoring technical issues, is it a good idea? Cos I really don't like programs handling it...

Sorry I was on my phone earlier and hate posting via it. Basically I bought a fan controller to keep the noise down when gf is sleeping (PC in same room). Just installed that (Antec 902 case) for all the chassis fans... but for the final knob I wanted my CPU Heatsink hooked up so I could also turn that down (50% is adequate for calm stuff, and 70-80% for gaming) atm CPU is on 100% and even though I use speedfan for it currently, I want it on the Controller.

Is there any downside to the CPU sink being on a physical controller? I have CoreTemp and EVGA Precision for CPU/GPU monitoring in the system tray as well as overheat protection on them, so I wouldn't consider heating a risk. I just didn't wanna hook it up in case I'd overlooked something...

Asus M4N98TD-EVO mobo just fyi

If you plug it into your hardware fan controller, as opposed to the CPU_Fan header, your computer is going to beep at you, and otherwise be angry - it might not even let you boot up into Windows.

CPUs are pretty good an knowing how much fan it needs.
