Hi all,

So a few days ago I made a thread about trying to build my first PC.

I want to get this out of the way first and foremost. I dont know much about computers. I've read online that computers can be built relatively cheap and still be extremely powerful. Right now I have a Dell Studio XPS and it can barely play games like the Sims and World of Warcraft on the lowest settings. The laptop gets too hot and then just shuts down. With a more powerful computer I'll probably expand which games I play as well. My budget is between 500-700, and I'm hoping not to spend too much. I just want to be able to play games on high quality, and be able to multi task if I have to. By that I mean, being able to listen to music or be able to surf the web while the game is on. Thanks a lot guys.

And I got a solution that I am probably going to roll with.

Here's a suggestion of what you can get for $700:

Here's a suggestion of what you can get for $700:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor ($129.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($49.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Asus Radeon R9 270 2GB Video Card ($182.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.99 @ Microcenter)
Power Supply: Antec High Current Gamer 620W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($49.99 @ NCIX US)
Optical Drive: LG GH24NSB0 DVD/CD Writer ($14.99 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($89.00 @ Amazon)
Total: $701.91

I was hoping to get a second opinion on this build. It seems very good, but I dont know much about computers and want to do my due diligence. I also had a few other simple questions:

1. As I understand PC games can be played on TV just as good as the major consoles. Is there a way to wirelessly connect the PC to the TV? I hate excess wires.

2. It might be superficial, but I want my PC to look awesome since it will probably be in my living room. Will getting a cooler looking case affect anything?

3. And as of right now, I'm rolling with a $700 budget. But in case something changes and my budget increases and I want to upgrade, what's the most important thing to upgrade first.

Thanks a lot for the help.

you might want to cost cut on the psu and add that budget to get the 270x gpu..

these are cheaper yet decent psu's

FSP Raider 650w
Seasonic S12II 620w

to answer number 1. question, you can use wireless peripherals, but for the display port e.g. hdmi/vga/dvi i dont think that technology exist yet.

2. nope if youre not going to overclock, but you can put led strips and fans to illuminate it

3.if you follow my recommendation above about the gpu, maybe theres nothing to upgrade for the next 2 years.
