What causes bottlenecking and will it occur in this case? (Details below)

I was talking to one of my friends when he mentioned bottlenecking. I was wondering if an Intel i3 3220 with an Nvidia GTX660 will cause any bottlenecking. Also, is this set up good enough to play demanding games?
Additional info: RAM will be 8GB

Actually the i3's bench really well, the 660 will not be held back at all in virtually most circumstances.

You should expect the i3's to suffer on multiplayer online games though.

This CPU is probably weak for the 660. About being enough for demanding games, it is not. This is a medium graphic card, you can't go full on really demanding games and expect good fps. I'd say for these days you'd need something like a 770 or better (that's if you're more of an Nvidia guy) if you don't wanna miss all those details in fluid motion. 8gb of RAM is enough though.

Bottlenecking occurs when one part holds one or more other parts back from performing to their full potential. This is not always an issue. The i3 3220 is not the best option to use with a GTX660, but it is plenty good enough to not cause any problems in performance. Like... you're still going to get playable fps with the i3 even though an i5 would be better.

Could you also suggest an Intel processor which is around the same price as an i3 3220 and can handle the abuse? I'm sticking to a GTX660 because as of now I don't have the cash to buy the better GPUs. Thanks.

A good i5 for around the price of the i3 3220 will be? Thanks for your input!

If you're really on a tight budget, I'd recommend i5 4330 (remember it's a socket 1150, different from yours, wich is 1155, so another mobo would be necessary, otherwise stick to yours, since I don't see much of a sense in buying something from previous generation). As maxalge suggested, you can still handle the 660 with your processor, though in certain circumstances you may suffer from lag imput.
