What is the deal with AMD r9 2..x

It seems to me that asisde from clock speed there is not much of a diffrence between the r9 and ther9 x's most of them have the same memory and the same amount of stream processors, rop's tmu's ect.... If anyone has used either of these and noticed a big diffrence let me know especially in r9 290 vs 290x....

...the stream processors is are definitely more in the 290x it's 2560 vs. 2816. The clock speeds are higher on the 290x as well. I think some games aren't making full use of the 290x yet vs the 290. Once you start to see aftermarket coolers and watercooling is more prevalent you'll see more of a difference. Not saying the 290 isn't the best bang for the buck, since it is atm.
