Hello, I currently have a Sabertooth x58 with intel i7 960 installed, and am wanting to upgrade the primary video card. Will this board be able to handle either the 290x or it's nvidia equivalent, while maintaining the existing 650 gt as a secondary card?

its hit and miss, in theory the board should support any card but its not always the case, you could use the 650gt as a secondary card with either but you wont get physx acceleration on it with the AMD card but the AMD card will support Mantle with newer games taking load off your cpu for better performance among other things.

if you go for 290x wait till end of this month and into january for the custom boards unless you want to water cool one then get a reference.

I would much prefer to stick with Nvidia, I've had a lot better luck. Just wasn't sure which card would be comparable to the 290x. From doing some more reading it looks like the gtx 780 would? Will that motherboard have enough bandwith to fully support the main card, or do I need to worry about bottlenecking it?

your processor will bottleneck it a bit, also the 780ti is comparable to the 290x not the 780.

290x and 780ti have comparable performance when compared clock for clock.

Thanks for the info on the 780ti, probably the card I'm going to go with. By bottlenecking a bit, do you think it will be a fairly minor performance hit, or would putting that much card on that processor be a waste of money? Right now I'm hoping to get a good card this year, and then upgrade mobo/cpu next year. If I do it that way, I can better gear. If I do it all at once, I'll have to step down to either the FX 8350 or one of the fairly cheap i5s to get the card I want.
