You can try to use Hiren's Boot CD (http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/) to start the system up. Then you can format the drive from the boot CD. That should then let you install Windows in the normal way from the Windows CD. I do hope you are using a legit version of Windows to install from. Also you could invest $90 in an O.E.M. Windows 7 disk and have an up to date OS that is supported with security and other updates (32 and 64 bit cost the same).

Hi, you cant just "BIN" a PC. TO fix it, you need to be sure which components are working.
Do you get any boot device error at startup? Like no boot device found or something.
You need to go into the bios and check if your HDD is detected.
Then you need to set the priority of the boot device.
If you want to install through internal CD drive, then make sure its the first device on the priority list.
After that just insert a bootable disc into cd drive and install the OS.

Vista looks for a partition to install on but you formatted your drive to ext4 which windows doesn't see. To install vista you have to reformat the drive. Since you say that vista doesn't install that implies you can boot to a DVD. If you have another Linux boot to that and use gparted to format the hdd.
Mint wouldn't update? That's a little worrysome. Could you please describe what happened that you say that?

Try downloading an older version of Ubuntu, 11.04. There's something that newer versions leave out older machines need at install. On my phone so I can't look it up now, slooow connection speed. Once installed then you can to the newer version.
