Fresh build doesn't send signal to monitors

Hi there!

I've recently put together a new PC with the following components:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3H
CPU: AMD A8-5600K
RAM: 2x2GB Kingston HyperX Genesis (KHX1866C9D3K2/4GX)
SSD: 2'5" Crucial M500, 120Gb (CT120M500SSD1)

I've installed these parts in an LC-Power LC-1410MI case, which comes with a built-in power supply. I've also added a Samsung DVD burner, whose serial code escapes me at the moment.

My problem is this: the silly thing won't send a signal to a monitor! I've tried using the VGA and the HDMI outputs, with 2 different monitors which I know work fine, but no signal comes out of those ports. Another issue, which I suspect might be related, is that the system can't be powered down once it's started up. It doesn't respond to the Reset button on the case's front-end (which is connected to the mobo properly -- I've checked thrice), nor to holding down the Power button for any period of time.

After a couple of seconds after powering up the system, the DVD tray ejects, which suggests at the very least something is going on -- I just can't see what.

One of the things I noticed is that there is the standard 20+4-pin power connector labeled "ATX" on the motherboard, which I've hooked up to the UPS, but there's also a smaller 8-pin connector labeled "ATX 12V", for which I don't have any cables coming out of the power supply. (I do have 2 unused Molex connectors, 1 ATA power connector and 1 4-pin ATX connector dangling from it.)

Could this be a power issue? The UPS is rated for 200W, which I don't think I'm using up. The machine's supposed to be a gift to my girlfriend, who desperately needs a PC for her studies, but it's a far cry from useful in its current state. Any help solving it ASAP would be very much appreciated.

Thanks a bunch,
- Q

If you haven't already replaced the power supply (200W is a bit low for that motherboard), that 4-pin ATX connector is the one you need to use. If you check the motherboard manual where it talks about hooking up the motherboard's internal connectors (section 1-8 part 1/2), the first section is about the ATX 12V connector, which works with either 2x4 connectors, or 2x2 connectors. Pins 1,2,5 and 6 are only for use with the 2x8 version, pins 3,4,7 and 8 are the ones to plug the (keyed, so you can't put it in wrong) cable into. Mine's set up with just the 4-pin connector, and is working fine.

The manual can be found on Gigabyte's product page for the MB: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4716#manual
