VPN on MacBook and Windows Vista not connecting

I cannot get my MacBook 2007 or my Dell with Windows Vista to connect to my VPN yet the iPad can with our Comcast modem and wifi router...any suggestions?

Are both systems connected to the internet? Can you view purple.com? (Visiting a website that isn't in your cache will verify you are connected to the outside world)

Do you get any errors when trying to connect?

We have no problem connecting to the Internet through our wifi router linked to comcast...what happens is it shows up as unable when having to click automatic when setting up the VPN..it shows the router address and won't go further. I tried connecting directly through Ethernet into the cable box and it won't work either. I tried my husband's Dell and it didnt work...wondering if our 2007 and 2009 computers are just too old to connect to the subscription VPN
