8GB 1330 vs 4GB 1600

my son is running an A10-5800k with 4GB of 1600 speed RAM and a discreet GPU (7770). I just upgraded my PC and was thinking of giving him my old RAM- 8GB 1330 speed.

i know APU's benefit from high speed RAM more than other CPU's so i was curious if doubling his GB's, even though its slower speed, would give any kind of performance increase.

in games not so much but for everyday tasks it will run better. the apus like fast ram for their integrated gpu. he-s not using it so...

No, it would actually decrease it, because if the 2 different ram speeds are different, all ram speed will be locked down to the highest possible speed with both sticks, so you would have it all be 1330 mhz.
The answer is no, it would decrease the speed.

It would decrease DRAM speed of current if mixed and would be slower DRAM wise, but overall system should improve some with more DRAM

How? He's using a discrete GPU - which may borrow a bit of DRAM but isn't dependent on DRAM as the integrated GPU from the APU is

let me be clear, you would not be mixing the RAM, its either one or the other?

i would think having 8GB of 1330 speed RAM would perform better than 4GB of 1600 speed RAM.

for the apu used together with a discrete card like in your case it will work better for everyday tasks. games performance will be the same or very small variation.
