Will an overclocked fx 6300 to 3.8ghz bottleneck an r9290? I would oc more but I am working with an msi 970a-g43 mobo so I do not want to push any farther then the oc genie II( which is 3.8ghz) I have read at stock my cpu would bottleneck the r9 290 to about 80% perfermance, so what can I expect with this slight oc? I am now going to attempt a greater oc with hyper 212 evo cooling solution

More about : 6300 8ghz 290

That motherboard handles 125w FX 8320's. You can clock your CPU to at least an FX 6350's 3.9ghz to maybe 4.0 and still be OK. You just need to change the multiplier to get there normally. It might bottleneck an R290 a little, but I wouldn't think it would much with that clock speed.

So it would be safe for me to over clock to 4.0 without having to worry about frying my mobo or severely shortening its life span

As long as voltage doesn't need an increased as well, 3.9-4.0 should be fine.

I oc to 3.9 by changinging the multiplier and had a crash after playing half hour of gw2.
What should i do?

I've ordered the hyper 212 evo to replace the stock cooler and 4 case fans to increase airflow inside the case. I am going to shoot for at least 4.1ghz. Anyone have any other thoughts on if this cpu will bottleneck r9 290? fx6300 oc

I wouldn't push it too hard on the overclock. Your board really isn't made for serious overclocking.

To speak the truth,u would be bottlenecked. But i'd say that if u can push ur cpu to 4.2-4.5 ghz using a third party aftermarket cpu cooler like the Hyper 212 EVO,then the bottleneck would be somewhat minimal but still there would be bottleneck.
And be aware of O.C ing that much on your G43, logain is right, it's not meant for serious O.C ing.
I's recommend u to buy a fx8320 which is the best price/performance cpu in the market.

And yes it also depends on the games u are playing. If u are playing cpu intensive games like skyrim, crysis 3 then, u would fell like ur cpu is holding back the performance.
