For some time i have been thinking of building a desktop, i have little tecnical skills and my knowledge is limited though, so i wanted to ask u guys for some help in this build.
I want to build a GAMING desktop, i will use it for works and stuff too but mainly i want it for gaming, i havent bought anything else, i dont have a monitor, so i will be getting it from scratch.
I will be playing a lot of high-end graphic engine games like AC4 and BF4 and other games that come out in this gen.
From what i have checked i was thinking about:
- R9 280X with an intel core i5, i am from portugal so the GPU will be 300 euros alone, i was thinking about 200 euros for the CPU and maybe a 100 euro monitor like this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-S22B150-21-5-inch-Wides...

-About 8gb of ram and a power suply of about 750-900 watts, since i am considering in the future (like in a year or 2) giving some more juice to the computer with another GPU and some overclocking.
I have no idea what Motherboard to put in for this build
Would apreciate any help u can give

Other relevant information: Yes i can go a little over the budget but only if it is really worth it, and i will buy After market cooler fans for the CPU and GPU once i overclock them, by the way english is not my mother tongue so sorry if its bad :/

I'm sorry but what site could you refer me to to select parts since you live in Portugal and that's preferable to not send you to the USA or I don't know where to look for parts :)

Well that is one impressive build :) )
Does that Motherboard have space for more GPU's so i can SLI later?

mmh I don't think it would do well for SLI...Maybe one card would be @x16 and the other @x4
If you really are planning on going on SLI this one should do the job
ASUS P8P67 PRO INTEL P67 SK1155 REV3.1 149.9 EUR; for a total of 1007 EUR. A little over your max budget.

The prices wont be significatively different, if you include delivery costs though it maybe better to buy from chiptec. In any case make sure to look at all the costs (+ delivery!!)

Very good. Still you'll need RAM + PSU ;)  . And you won't be able to make a full SLI

Yeah sorry. In fact you can make a SLI but there will be a GPU running at x16 and once you'll plug the other GPU this one will run at x4. So for example a GTX 780 would be a lot bottlenecked by the bandwith...

So should i get a diferent motherboard so i can get a better SLI?
I am getting the GTX 770 btw no the 780

The GTX770 is an excellent card, i'd suggest you to look either for MSI or EVGA or ASUS, they have good cooling systems and OCing capabilities. If you want a better motherboard to run SLI at x8/x8 which would be better than the AsRock Pro 3, take a look at this one Asus P8Z77-M-PRO

Thanks for the information so far :)  yes i was advised to get either an EVGA or an ASUS GPU.
So u are saying i would get more out of the GPU's and get more performance in a 8x/8x SLI than in a 16X/4X sli? why?

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pci-express-scaling.... In fact it depends on the game you're willing to play. In case of playing Skyrim, NBA2Ks, a single GTX770 will pretty much max out the settings. Still in this review there isn't much of a loss.

OH! I see so there IS a performance loss in 4X/16X SLI/Crossfire, that thought in mind, i should probably get a 16X GPU motherboard that can be switched to 8x/8x when i do the SLI/Crossfire right?
m

December 7, 2013 3:30:04 PM

Yes, there will be a loss from a x16/x16 to a x8/x8, in theory, but considering that there are few (any?) x16/x16, it'll be better to go for a x8/x8 than a x16/x4.

Is it because Nvidea's GPUs have Advanced Physx while AMD's GPUs only go with Physx? (not sure its spelled that way)

I've always had Nvidia cards and always've been satisfied. More of a customer habit. To be honest I've seen Physix being used only in Batman Arkham City, I don't think it's a feature you'll miss that much if you buy an AMD card. Whatever card you'll go with will do the job.

In fact there are few games like BF4 for which the i5 just doesn't have the enough cores. So buying a i7 with 4 physical cores is an advantage. That said the CPU won't be much of a bottleneck. It's still very powerful for gaming.

Well the i5 i am planing to buy is the Intel Core i5-4430 3.0GHz 6MB Sk1150, from here maybe http://www.pcdiga.com/2/10692/Intel-Core-i5-4430-3-0GHz...
it is a quad core, do u think it is a good one? For the GPU? I am scared it will Bottleneck it, coz the GTX770 is a beast of a GPU

As I told you maybe on some parts of BF4 which is CPU demanding otherwise it's a very powerful CPU so don't worry luch about it. In other words you don't need to invest much more only for few minutes of gameplay.

I think i got my final build set :)
Btw ty for that motherboard suggestion but would an Asus P8Z77-V LX do the same? http://www.pcdiga.com/2/7770/Motherboard-Asus-P8Z77-V-L...

Anytime dude, the motherboard has one x16 PCIe and the other would run x4 if you're going in dual GPUs.

December 8, 2013 7:20:39 AM

Oh! :/  well then, i picked the wrong motherboard.
So the P8Z77-M-PRO you mentioned earlier would be able to do this 16x single GPU and afterwards 8X/8X gpu SLI configuration?
From my research just now that Motherboard doesnt seem to be sold here in portugal, would have to buy from Amazon UK, i was looking at this one just now tho http://www.pcdiga.com/2/11926/Motherboard-Asus-Z87-K-C2...

Ok have a look at this one http://www.pcdiga.com/2/10705/Motherboard-Asus-Z87-A-90...
As you can see there's mentionned:
Slots de Expansão:
2 x Slots PCI Express 3.0/2.0 x16 (single a x16 ou dual em modo x8/x8)
1 x Slot PCI Express 2.0 x16 (máx. em modo x2, compatível com PCIe x1 e x2 devices)
2 x Slots PCI Express 2.0 x1
2 x Slots PCI
And that's how you can figure it out.

GTX 760 is a step down, Still a very good card, you'll be able to max out all new games at 40-60 FPS at 1080p.

December 8, 2013 8:57:36 AM

Yes i know its a step down but i just wanted to make sure I could still have some very good performance and futureproofing with it, with a GTX760 instead of a GTX770 I will probably have to get a Crossfire/SLI setup earlier right? Less futureproofing
I guess it depends on the OS, if i cant get it cheap i will probably have to get the GTX 760 (Thinking of Win7)

December 8, 2013 9:11:42 AM

Ok, GTX 760 is a powerful card don't get me wrong and futureproof is a more of a concept since you can't have futureproof with technology. I like to take Crysis 3 as example even the GTX Titan is having trouble with it. So don't worry much about it, it'll still run the next 2 years upcoming games. I guess that SLI GTX760 would be even more futureproofing.

Well yes I guess it is true Crysis 3 is a beast of a game in terms of graphics, seen a HD7970 having trouble with it, i guess ill have a GTX770 if i can have it, if not ill probably go with a GTX760 its still an awesome GPU and with an SLI it should grant me about 3-4 years of no-problem gaming , dont u think?
