Hi everyone, I have a GeForce GTX 650 1 GB video card. I also have 3.25 GB of RAM and a 2.4 GHz Quad Core Processor. I can run games like Skyrim, Civilization V, and RAGE on High - Ultra Settings at 60 fps and 1280 x 1024 resolution. However, I do have problems with Assassin's Creed 3, Far Cry 3, and Borderlands 2. AC3 runs at about 20 fps at certain locations in the game, even on lowest settings. Far Cry 3 runs at about 40 fps on low, and Borderlands 2 can run on low - medium at 60 fps with drops to 50. Every other game runs fine though. Is there a problem with the games or is it my system? Also what can I do to fix these games? Thanks to anyone that answers and please help me! :)

Intel Core 2 Q6600 is a '07 CPU, quite good at that time but the age is always the killer (doesn't mean the performance decreases as time goes by). Right now a dual-core i3 beats even Q8300/8400 series (See this site: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ivy-bridge-wolfdale-yorkfield-comparison,3487.html). So I guess older architecture and also low CPU clock (only 2.4 Ghz compares to 3.0 Ghz+ i5 Quad-Core or 3.3Ghz+ i3 CPUs) drags ur back. Gaming site could only provide u some reference but not ultimate solution, cuz there are so many factors that affect the actual performance.

GTX 650 is the lowest-end GPU in GTX 600 series. It stands between AMD HD 7750 and HD 7770. So it's considered as an entry gaming gfx. If u wanna achieve good...

GTX 650 gfx isn't that very strong compared w/ lots of gaming cards. Let's make an example, u have a BMW 325i (GTX 650) but u want it to run like a Porsche 911, how the devil will that be possible?

Btw, what's ur CPU? I guess it will be a Intel Core 2 Q6600 cuz it's 2.4Ghz. But how exactly it is?

The games u'r playing like FC3, AC3 and so on needs a lot of compute power. At least I would say GTX 650 ti boost or HD 7850/R9-270/270X gfx to power them up. And is ur OS 32 bit or 64 bit? Sounds like u suffered a RAM problem of not using all the system memory (generally it supposed to be 4 GB)

Nice profile pic, 24 is my favorite TV show. Anyways, yes, that is my CPU, and my OS is 32 bit. Is there any way to make my system use all the RAM that it can? I've seen videos of people running these games with my card just fine.

Thx man, I use 24 pic cuz I am a big Bauer fan too. This guy would be a legend for a long time.

For using all RAM u need a 64-bit OS (or there are some crack to enable 32-bit OS assess more than 3.25GB RAM but it would cause some strange issues.)

Yeah I can't wait to see Bauer back next year for another season.

Well, that sucks, I just don't understand how I can run all these other games with no problem but when it comes to these 3 games, it just doesn't work.

Can you think of any way that I could make these games work? I've asked around a different site and they said I should have no problem playing Far Cry 3 on High.

If u wanna achieve good fps in gaming w/ higher settings, closing down some shadow settings or AA settings would be a good idea, or find out how other people optimize the game settings (not many people could afford or willing to afford high-end gaming rigs) in some gaming forums.Uninstalling some useless software and do some optimization using OS-owned disk defragmenter and disk cleaner will also help. But ultimately upgrading all ur platform will be a good solution in the future.

Yeah I'm definitely going to upgrade at the beginning of the year, and it looks like I may not be able to run the games at all. I might overclock because it looks like that could make a difference, but other than that it looks like I may just have to wait.

So there's no way for me to run these games then?

OC helps a little bit but pay attention to the heat.

Try optimization or tweak down game settings (for example sacrifice some redundant shadow or AA settings, or tweak down some detail settings such as water or blur) to gain fps. Before u upgrade, what u could do is compromise.

Would you recommend any guides for overclocking? I know that my motherboard has a LGA775 socket or something like that. Also I'm new to overclocking so if there is a simple guide then that would be great. Thank you so much!

I also don't want to ruin my computer or anything like that. I don't believe I have a cooler or anything like that for my cpu.

your 650 should be faster than my 7750...my 7750 can run optimal settings-2xaa on far cry 3..same resolution as yours 1280 x 1024 33 fps avg...
your problem might be:
faulty drivers
outdated windows
virus

I think the "outdated windows" may make sense if his OS is VIsta. Maybe instaling Win 8.1 64-bit would help a little bit cuz it's better optimized. Faulty Drivers or Virus aren't likely in this case.

I don't know ur CPU but if it's Core i3/i5 series, it will help the games run better than the guy's Core 2 platform.

Generally overclocking needs better cooling condition. For ur cpu, the stock cooler could only help u oc like 10 per cent. Over that I couldn't guarantee the safety unless u have a good third party cooler .

Plus compared with modern AMD FX cpus or intel I5 or I7 with K version, core 2 q6600 have a locked multiplier meaning oc is more difficult in this case. So I don't feel like recommending oc ur cpu.

I see your O/S is 32 bit and your ram is 3.5 because of it. I would recommend 64 bit version of W7 so you can throw in some more ram, 8 Gb is the sweet spot (if your mobo can take it). Also the 650 will do 1080 aka 1920 x 1080 but that won't guarantee 60 fps. I'd try 1280x720 you should get 60 fps on FC3. Hope this helps.

it seems you didn't read his post carefully.. he is running other games that is more Graphic details than the games that had an issue on his card.. i have the same Gpu card and showing the same problem.. other games i played shows a good FPS but in AC4 Black Flag it drops the FPS mostly in town and forest.. yes i know this is normal but the big issue is, i'm running it in a full Low Graphic settings and slightly no difference in Full Low or Very high settings.. is like the GPU is never meant to play this game.. a GPU like GTX650 can handle a game mostly if all is in Very low settings but it isn't doing that..
