so i am completely new to the hardware side of things and just completed my first rig (successfully!). I have an MSI Z87-g45 mobo with the integrated soundblaster audio. i just took apart an older pc that someone was throwing out and grabbed a soundblaster audigy 2 zs soundcard from it. i have no idea if plugging this thing in would be an upgrade or not. logic would dictate that the bigger external card would be a better choice but then again its old and the way tech progresses the integrated one may be better now. If it makes any difference I have my pc hooked up to a tv via an HDMI cable connected to GPU. plus i only really ever use USB headphones so i probably dont even need anything better. thanks for helping out a rookie.

I find onboard sound spoils voices when listening via headphones or speakers plugged anywhere into my pc, but if I use a sound card, I notice I dont rewind and play back for lost dialogue. If you notice this problem, it might be worth trying out the card (do you have an old slot it fits?) If you never notice my problem, well, it wont hurt anything.
