So, I built my PC a couple months back, (here are the specs)

I would play games like BF3, Tf2, CS:GO, etc. on it. And a couple months back, after some GPU driver issues, I managed to get it working again. This time, however, the computer would randomly shut down completely, as though all power was cut, rather than, say, through a "windows is shutting down screen."
Earlier today, this happened again, and when I tried to turn it on, the PC turned on for maybe half a second, and you could hear everything spin up, and then suddenly it would just shut off. Replugging the PSU would lead to another half second turn on and off. I opened it up and checked the contacts on the mobo to the front panel power switch, so I used a screwdriver and shorted the power pins, which caused it to start up, and it ran all the way to startup, but when I flipped it upwards (i turned it on sideways) it shut down. AGAIN. Repeated the pin short. Flipped up. Shut down just when I flipped, AGAIN.
Finally, decided to reverse the front panel power connector, (wasn't sure which side was positive and which was negative.) Turned on. Logged in. Flipped up. Then I heard a strange sliding noise, and it shut down. I opened it up again to try to reboot it, and then I noticed this really foul smell, which stank like burning plastic. I pulled the plug on the machine, and moved it aside. Sniffing around, the smell definitely came from the PSU, which I bought brand new, just like the rest of my parts. I never oc'd a day in my life, and now I'm sitting here wondering what to do. I have a spare PSU in my basement, and I'm wondering whether I should test that in my system, but I'm really unsure how to proceed. Please respond, thanks in advance.
