HOW and what do I need to hook one hard drive to another one, to transfer xp progrom from system using windows 8.

Assuming you have another PC, obtain a USB cable or dock.
Remove the drive from the dead PC.
Plug it into that dock.
See what happens.
You might be able to access it and retrieve your files.

If you're asking what I think you're asking...you can't really do that. You can't just 'transfer' one program to a whole other system.
Find the original install file, and reinstall it on the new system.

I am new to this an I am just asking to find out what I can do and what I can not do. Power shut down not able to restart old Compaq, tries to start goes back to trouble page what can I do to restart tried ever thing to nothing has worked.
