I recently had a chance to install a raid 1 on my computer since I got some matching 300gb satas.
it is running much slower than my old single 500 sata. to the point where I click on a folder and have to wait and see things slowly pop up. is there some setting I missed to make it read correctly? (sorry not sure of which drives they are, when I try to look it just says raid device)
put in old drive and it tested much better
win7 64 bit
msi 970a-g46
8gb ddr3
amd phenom 2 965

For normal desktop use, RAID in any configuration is rarely necessary or 'better'.
raid 1 means the data is written on both drives at the same time so it will work at the speed of the slowest of the hdd-s. the raid 0 is the one offering more speed. yes, it would show on the drive manager as raid device. as far as windows is concerned it deals with 1 hdd (that's the whole point to the raid).

I think im just going to store all my files on the 500 and redo the others to raid0 then for the os, this speed makes me feel like its the 90's again. its the read speed thats bugging me. you would think since it could read the same file from 2 drives it would be faster

I only tried it since I got those matching drives, and I figured a little redundancy never hurt anything in case of failure. thanks for the tip. By te way, thanks for your service! I was born at seymour johnson AFB
