Are these temps normal for i7 3770K?

As it stands, I have a i7 3770K with the H100i cooler. At a idle rate, CoreTemp has idle temps at 40 (give or take 3). Is this a normal idle temp (I know that Ivy runs at a higher temp the the Sandy CPU's) with this cooler?

I would expect 50'ish Celcius, but if it goes past 65, then you may want to back off on the OC'ing. Also, do you live in a cold or hot climate? I live near the US/Canada Border so I actually need to overclock if I want to have >0C temps on my CPU (i7-4770k) and GPU (GTX 780 Ti) since I have a custom liquid cooling solution (360mm radiator and 240mm radiators).

I'm central Alberta (my temps have gone up recently since we are -40 with wind right now and the furnace is on a lot more). If I am going past the 65 (I hit 80 today, and when I did I shut the computer down and let it sit for a while...), what can be causing it?
I have not OC'ed this build btw.

I figured as much... The H100i came with the paste, but I am replacing it (not a lot on it I found after taking off the cooler. Computer is set up in a bedroom, so the furnace is there no matter what. What can be causing the high temps?

Note: The CPU is on the boost set to hit 3.9GHz, but no higher.

I recommend Gelid GC-Extreme if you have the budget. Also, try to place it as low as possible (hot air rises) and on the other corner of the room. If the situation becomes desperate enough, I have seen people use cardboard, cut a hole in it, use heat vent pipes (the silver colored ones that are bendy and have "rings" in them) and connect the cardboard to an open window, seal up the seam with duct tape, connect the other piece of the pipe to the computer intake, seal that part up, and do the same with the output of the PC.

The short answer: Use Gelid GC-Extreme and try to keep it near the floor and away from the heater.

Well, I am looking at the Arctic Cooling MX-4 (I am picking up instore today, and this is what i have found to be what i think is the best?) - what is your opinion on it?

Update on the room temps: The furnace and everything had the room set to 76 (my god to high!). I dropped it a lot... I'm hoping that this will help the problem a bit as well.

Another Update haha:

I am running stress tests on the CPU, and my max temps right now on the full load are 80... At a full load instance, would that be okay, or is something wrong here?

So, I added a couple of fans to the system (now a push and pull set-up on the radiator) and the temps are staying a consistant 37~43 at idle. I did a stress test with Prime95, and the max it hit was 75. Like I said before, the temps are not the greatest in my house right now since it is -40 outside and all haha. Going to put the new thermal past on tomorrow.

I expected 65'ish but it may just be Intel's batch problem (not a problem, its just that since they use automated TIM injection, some CPU's get more and some get less thermal compound). You should be able to overclock to my recommended 85C with Prime95. Try to get >3.7Ghz below 85C and you'll be fine.

1. That is actually a good temperature :)
2. I recommend ArctiClean: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100010
2a. If you don't want to buy it, I also recommend >70% rubbing alcohol on a piece of cloth (Not anything that will "break" into fibers/strands).
