I've recently started building my own desktop, and while I'm completely new to it, I haven't had any issues until I started trying to install the ram. I've lined up the small slit in the ram with the little plastic piece in the slot, and despite putting pressure on both sides, I can't seem to get the ram to fit.

I made sure there was nothing was in the slot blocking the ram from sliding in, but the gold pins at the bottom of the ram are still visible, and I can't get the motherboard to properly lock. And I've also looked up photos, so I know how it's supposed to look.

My motherboard is an Asus M5a97 r2.0 AM3+, and my ram is G.Skill Sniper 8gb(2x4gb). Any help would be much appreciated!

Solution
May have overly tight DRAM slots , would pull the sticks and blow out the slots to be sure nothing in them, then try again, make sure side clips are pulled open and use firm pressure across the top of each DIMM, let the clips lock themselves
