So i wanted to upgrade my graphics card and i bought a saphire HD 4870, it was only once i received it that i realised i needed 2 6 pin connectors to supply power for the card. My PSU doesn't have any 6 pin connectors but has 2 spare molex cables.

I was wondering if i can use a molex cable splitter to make the 2 i have into 4 and then use two 2 molex to 6 pin adapters and power my card.

PSU - Winpower 500w sl-8500btx
Graphics card - HD 4870
Motherboard - Gigabyte F2A55M-HD2
CPU - AMD A4-5300
RAM - 4gb 1333hz

The molex cable splitter:

The molex to 6 pin adapter:

If my idea is plain stupid what would be the cheapest, while being reliable, PSU which would fit my needs? (i was thinking of this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/OCZ-OCZ-CXS500W-UK-CoreXStream-Series-Supply/dp/B007SU2QRK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1386447921&sr=8-4)

EDIT: Here's a pic of my PSU : http://imgur.com/TNDz7TV

Solution
It's a horrible PSU.

The Solytech SL-8500BTX is also sold by Rosewill and Xigmatek as well as several other generic brands like Win Power.

These PSUs earned their reputation as exploding gutless wonders. I wouldn't trust them in any system.

Your idea of using a molex to 6 pin adapter would hasten the self-destruction of that PSU.

The OCZ CoreXStream 500W (OCZ-CXS500W) should be able to handle the Radeon HD 4870. Just realize that OCZ has recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection so the warranty may not be worth anything.

Don't think you'll find a good quality 500 - 550w for £32 and sugest you consider something like:

There's nothing great about the OCZ-CXS500W made by HEC. It's a budget entry level PSU with mediocre electrical performance.

You can't make any blanket statements or generalizations based just on the brand name. You have to look at each model by itself.
