is the amd a10 good for music production?

how does it perform with fl studio? i need a new laptop but some of the i7s are beyond my budget. i also want to do some light gaming & a laptop with amd a10 plus amd radeon 8970m is roughly 1100-1200 versus an i7 with gtx 770m for 1500 & up.

An AMD A10 will handle FL studio just fine. Plus, the 8970m is a great choice for light gaming while the 770m is more high end.
I think what you should be more concerned about for music production is what kind of sound hardware the laptop has. I'm not sure exactly what level of music production you are doing, but if it's high end you may want to consider an external sound card. The quality of audio capacitors, op-amps, DAC/ADC, etc. will make a difference.

Maybe something like a Focusrite audio interface would be an option.

i already have a lexicon external sound card. I was just wondering will the be a huge performance difference between the i7 and the a10. how well will it handle external plugins like kontakt or halion in terms of load speed.

Then go with the i7. The i7 is a high-end chip, and the a10 is more of a budget CPU. Honestly I don't know what kind of performance differences you will see in FL studio between the i7 and a10, but the i7 is an all around killer processor in every way. It is guaranteed to run fast and efficient.
