Please Help with Overclocking Quad Q6600

Hi everyone, I want to overclock my Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU to maybe 3.0 GHz. Right now it is at 2.4 GHz. My motherboard is the one that comes with the Dell Precision 390 desktop. I don't think I have a cooler in there but I can check if I have to. Could you guys tell me how to overclock my cpu?

I also have 3.25 GB of ram and I have a GeForce GTX 650 video card if that helps at all.

  1. You cannot overclock on an OEM Motherboard. However if your motherboard supports 1333 fsb you can..........https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/385435/cooling-and-case-modding/intel-q6600-mod-simple-enough-for-idiots/

So I have to tape that piece in order to overclock?

Yes, It will auto overclock to 3.0GHz if your Motherboard supports 1333 FSB. It should be stable but I can't guarantee it. Other than this mod you are SOL. 775 boards are hard to come by.

Ok so not any type of tape will work? I just put the tape onto that one pin and then my cpu will work at 3.0 ghz? That's really easy and I'll definitely try it. The only concern I have is if I don't have a cooler, could my computer break? And would it work without a cooler?
