OK this is my first ever attempt to over clock so I start monitor the temps under Prim95 using core temp. before I start overclocking any thing my temps. was :

Idle: 32 - 33 - 32 -31
stress test in prime95 : 90 - 90 - 90 - 82
my ambient is 22.5 c

CPU : i7 4770k
cooler : evo 212 x
motherboard : asus maximus vi hero

are this normal temp under load ??
p.s. why one of the cores is a bit lower than others? is that normal??

Thanks in advance guys

Your idle temps are fine, and it is normal for the individual cores to have different temps as the sensor locations will vary from core to core.

Your max temps are too high - if those temps showed with no overclock, my guess is you didn't get the TIM applied correctly and/or the cooler is not properly installed/tightened down.

If these temps showed with an o/c attempt, what settings did you use?

I did not overclock yet this is stock temps. the test I am running in prime 95 is : (Small FFTs) first one there
when I run second test (in-place large FFTs) I get less temps 76 -76- 76- 76

The way I applayed the thermal past is how it was in 212 manual by smearing the paste on the cooler where is the brass tube (I used about bb size)!!

I imagine a bb size is around a pea size dot, putting that amount on each pipe/tube can add up to a lot.

Try again and put less on and don't smear it with your hands or anything, let the pressure of the heatsink mounts spread the paste.

Yes your temps are too high, but this could also be a result of having the voltage at "auto". Set your voltage to a reasonable level and boot up.

As for applying thermal paste, I recommend you read this in detail:

http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appmeth/int/vl/intel_app_method_vertical_line_v1.1.pdf

If the link doesn't work just google arctic silver 5 website and select your CPU from the menus. Not only is AS5 one of the best thermal pastes, but I'm pretty sure they know how to apply it properly.

Now I have new results:
1- I reset the cooler and re install paste, well nothing changed.
2- I went to bios setup in CPU config - voltage control and disable the turbo Then the new the temps become 68 ~ 71 for each core and CPU read 3500MHZ during the test, when the turbo was on CPU was reading 3900MHZ during the test!
So I don't know now it was that the problem as CPU was overclocked by default!! as I mention above I am totally new to OC
and now do I have normal temps (68~71 for each core) or I still should try something else?

I have good airflow I guess, I have front fan in and back and top out all my cables running behind motherboard,
Is there is any starting point to check the voltage as this turbo func. ?? as I mention above my mother board is : asus maximus vi hero running all setting @ default values.

Can you please tell me what is good temperature I should get of the maximum stress test without OC @ 3.5GHZ so I can start from there and what is the max after OC that I should not over it on my CPU i7 4770k?

I usually Google everything first but I was not sure about the answer,
Just to let you know the last update, I found the problem, I uninstall asus AI III then go to bios load optimized setting now I am getting with prime95 max stress test for CPU 65c max
I think Now I am good to go and I can maybe lower some temps by tweaking the fans?
Thank you again for your help
