I have a hard drive from a old computer that I to use in my new computer. The hard drive has virus on it, I would like to install the hard drive and format it so its like new.

My question is, if I plug the hard drive in will my computer get infected or what?

Help is much appreciated.

Solution
What I would do is:

Create a Linux boot CD.
Disconnect all other drives
Connect the affected drive
Boot from the Linux drive
Wipe anything and everything from the sick drive
Power down and reconnect all your regular drives

After that, it should be OK to connect and use as a secondary drive.

Download one of these:
http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php

Burn to a CD
Boot from that.
