I am switching from console to computer and graphics are a big thing for me. Obviously the 780 ti outperforms the r9 290x, and that outperforms the r9 280x, but I want to know which has better price to performance, what to expect, how long before I will have to change it to keep up with new games, and what it needs to not be bottlenecked. Any answers greatly appreciated.

More about : 290x 780 280x

Best deal is R9 280X, but they are currently "gone" alone with the 7970's just about everywhere.............

The 780Ti is like $700, I'd go for the 780, it's only $500 and honestly is fast enough for 1920x1080 on almost any game. The "Ti" is simply NOT "$200 faster" than the GTX780........

The AMD R9 290X runs 95C, and, throttles frequently to keep from cooking. At $550 --- $600, I'd pass and go for the R9 290, at $450 it runs cooler with enough of the R9 290X to make it a better value.

If you can afford it get the 780ti, I don't like the 290/x coolers so I prefer 280x...
You can also get the 780.

If graphics are a big thing for you, how could you survive consoles...

Get the r9 290 PERIOD. I run bf4 at ~70 fps with it along with i7 4770K. I was going to use the gtx 780 for my build, but I found the r9 290 to be 3x better
