Hello all,

What is one supposed to do about cleaning the registry? I hear people mention it from time to time but have no idea. Is there a reason one has to do it, i.e., if your machine is playing up or something, or should it be done on a regular basis anyway? If so, what is the best software to do it?

Thank you.

ccleaner is one of the less invasive registry cleaners and offers the option to backup the registry, however i prefer to backup my whole registry with Registry Backup from Tweaking.com.on the whole registry cleaners are not gonna speed your machine up nearly as much as they claim,or at all for that matter.

Uninstalled programs often leave unnecessary stuff in the registry. It's a good idea to clean it occasionally or even regularly as it allows your computer to run more efficiently. A great small free program is CCleaner which will also allow you to do other housecleaning chores safely and easily.

You don't need to do it, windows looks after it on its own. There should be no harm in using cleaner to give it a spring clean, most power users do. Unless your having problems, or think you need to clean up after some malware, its normally not an issue.
