GPU 1gb and 2gb whad does it improves in gaming performance?

there are same model of gpu but offers 1gb and 2gb. example gtx650ti 1gb and gtx650ti 2gb or
hd4670 512mg and hd46701gb. what does exaclty the gpu memory does i have read it has something to do with resolution. because if it is. it seems to be better for me to have lower memory for lowerprice because i only have 18.5inch monitor and 1400x900 resulution

It's not just your resolution, more and more games now are using more vram, BF4 can get up to 3gb on it's own.

If you are not planning to play any modern games or upgrade your monitor you should be fine. However, I would suggest against all GPU's you have listed if you are planning to play newer games.

The VRAM on a video card does not determine how fast the card performs, it's basically for textures in a game.
When a game has large amount of textures, then a 2GB card will be able to handle it better than a 1GB card.
So the larger the VRAM, the higher amount of texture that card can handle.
