Im planning to use my current mobo to build a home/family PC, but want to run windows 8 instead just because its cheaper. Question is if I install windows 8 can I reuse my 7 product key on my new build?

Solution
If your W7 key came with the mobo it stays with the mobo, you can re install 32, 64, but its locked to that board. 7 retail (boxed) can be moved, Any W8 can be moved.

Uberpare, if you bought W7 retail in a video tape type plastic pack from a store the licence(certificate) of authority (C.O.A.) is yours for life. You can use it on any one pc at a time, change as often as you want, and use 32 or 64 bit, with that code. It seems W8 even o.e.m. will do the same.
Sell ur Microsoft shares! Thanks for the vote.

'if you bought a Full retail copy of Windows 8.1, then you can but otherwise, no.'
SR71 Says any o.e.m. C.O.A. of W8 can be moved, and he posts microsofts terms and conditions on here to prove it. I am not saying I read them of course, as I am a lazy git but I dont think he is as it would be pointless to make summat like that up while the pub is open..
