I recently bought my new computer. It has an XFX R9 280X Black Edition. In the future, can I run crossfire with this card. My motherboard is a Gigabyte H87-D3H, which has "1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16)" and "1 x PCI Express x16 slot, runnig at x4 (PCIEX4)" What does this mean? Can I crossfire in the future?
Also, if I do crossfire, do the cards need to be the same brand (e.g XFX and XFX) or can they be two different brands (XFX and Gigabyte)?

You can crossfire, yes. But the slot speeds will effect the quality of the crossfire. In most cases you will see much worst scaling than 2x x16 slots but sometimes you will actually see worse performance than using a single card.

I would suggest against it in that motherboard as it's likely to be a waste of money.
