Hi , Tomshardware . Can i request a favor from you all.
I bought Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag 1 week ago.
While playing the game i noticed there was a heavy lag.
I playeed AC 3 on high setting for all graphics options very smoothly.
But i did not experience lag on AC4 multiplayer. So i copied
the settings in my docs to assassins4.txt. it improved the fps a bit. But i need a good gameplay.
I have
core i3 3210 @ 3.2 GHz
AMD Radeon hd 6670 1gb ddr5 graphics card
4 GB ram.
1 TB hard disk
win 7 and xp 32 bit (both) os.
What can i do.
Another thing i experienced lag in GTA IV also.
All other amd developed games likee HMA. Sleeping dogs. ran fine on high.
AC4 lags even on low.
Please help

Solution
Not enough ram 8gig would be best but you would need x64 Windows 7 or Windows for that.

GPU on the low side and only 1gig VRAM. Next gen games are going to really need a better GPU than the 6670 can handle and it only has 1gig ram.

Some of this can be fixed though you could add more ram and Windows 7 you can install Windows 7 x64 with out having to buy it again as the 32bit key will work with the 64bit version. Of course you would have to do a complete install but you would then be able to take advantage of higher ram and such.

My guess is that you need a more powerful GPU. I bought Assassins Creed 4 and ran it fine on high setting with FXAA and god rays set to low. That was with an AMD 7850.
I have since upgraded to an AMD 270x crofffire set up.
I am not sure about the ram. I will test the game and post back with my ram usage in a bit:)

Yep as bryonhowley said, extra ram would be much more benefical, but you'll need to upgrade to 64 bit windows 7 since 32bit OS don't allow more than 4 GB.

Hi there.I have the same problem as our mate from above. The things is my computer Is twice better and I barely can play the game at medium. Not all the time is lagging. Is pretty much like the assassin creed 3 problem when was lagging in boston.Only in this game is lagging a bit more.My specs are:
AMD FX 8350
16 gb ram
ATi Radeon HD 7950 3gb ddr5 384 bit
Windows 7 x64

What drivers are you using? I played up until yesterday on an AMD 7850 2gb and it was fine with everything on high apart from godrays and only on FXAA.

I am using the 13.11 .I think its the latest on the ati site. even if I drop everything to low and off there are times when the fps drops under 10.It only has specific areas. It is really annoying.

Try the AMD Catalyst™ 13.11 Beta9.5 for Windows drivers:)

Ok,i will give it a try and come back tomorrow with results. Thanks

So I've downloaded the driver and is still not improved. The game itself runs pretty fine up the the point where is starts lagging.

For me:
i7 3770k
GTX 660 3GB
16GB Ram

I saw most lag when viewing vegetation, but turning off Vsync fixed it all for me. I have all settings maxed now, except for AA, and aside from a little screen tearing it runs fine after turning off Vsync.

Before turning off Vsync I had lag with every setting on Normal, god rays turned off, etc.

Hi guys.Sorry to reply so late. The V-Sync actually helped. The game is not running as I was expecting but its more playable now,and I guess I would have to get use to it until a patch will come. Thanks for the replies and for help

Best is that you reduce the usage for pc
close all the running apps and unnecessary background processes
which will get you a clean ram
and if it doesn't help
overclock your GPU with MSI afterburner and Riva tuner
